STATEMENT: Catherine Lhamon Nomination
Robert S. Eitel, President of the Defense of Freedom Institute released the following statement after Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer began the process to bring to a vote Catherine Lhamon’s nomination as the head of the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights:
“Catherine Lhamon is unfit to lead the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. Her previous tenure as Assistant Secretary and remarks during her confirmation hearing conclusively demonstrate an intense hostility to due process and campus free speech that is unacceptable for any government officer, much less one charged with enforcing civil rights in education. Senators who care about these important issues must reject her nomination.”
