Since January 20, 2021, the U.S. Department of Education has embarked on radical policy changes in the areas of student loan debt, Title IX, proposals for free college, and freezing funding for the Charter School Program (among other policies). Many of the Department's policy changes reflect the education plan proposed by Sen. Elizabeth Warren in her 2020 presidential campaign. Some of Sen. Warren's top policy allies now serve in key roles at the Department. In its FOIA request, DFI seeks records of communications between Sen. Warren, her staff, and certain officials at the Department.
