Since January 20, 2021, the U.S. Department of Education has unilaterally initiated student loan debt cancellation policies involving more than $20 billion and it appears poised to continue to impose unprecedented student loan debt cancellation policies. Particular State Attorneys General have publicly demanded that the Department enact many of these dramatic policies. In its FOIA request, DFI seeks the Department's records of communications with particular State Attorneys General (and their staffs) regarding Title IV student loan program policies.
