PRESS RELEASE: DFI Sues Biden Administration for Refusing to Produce Records Related to Potential Ethics Issues Arising Out of Student Loan Litigation

WASHINGTON—The Defense of Freedom Institute for Policy Studies (DFI) filed a lawsuit today against President Biden’s Department of Education (ED) for refusing to turn over records sought by DFI through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests submitted to  the administration on May 11, 2022, and May 12, 2022. Those requests probe the relationship between the U.S. Department of Education and a public interest organization whose former employee is now an attorney at ED and which has frequently litigated against ED.

“Government transparency and accountability are central to our democracy,” said DFI President and Co-Founder Bob Eitel.  “Americans have a right to these documents and to understand potential professional responsibility issues that may exist with regard to federal student aid policies. This is the third lawsuit DFI has been forced to bring against the Biden administration for failure to produce records under the Freedom of Information Act.”
