STATEMENT: DFI Statement on President Biden’s Latest Student Loan Cancellation Plan

WASHINGTON—The Defense of Freedom Institute’s Co-Founders Bob Eitel and Jim Blew released the following statement after the Biden administration unveiled details of its new plan to cancel hundreds of billions of dollars in student loan debt under the Higher Education Act:

Americans should reject President Biden’s latest scheme to buy votes under the cover of student debt cancellation. He’s just shifting the burden of repaying loans to the people who already paid back their loans or never attended college.

President Biden does not have the legal authority he claims to carry out mass loan cancellation – any more than he did two years ago when the Supreme Court struck down his half trillion dollar loan cancellation scheme. He’s betting he’ll get away with it. We’re betting the Court will shut him down again.
